St. Paul's Church, Melaka

Built-in 1521, St Paul's Church in Malacca is the oldest church in Southeast Asia and Malaysia. The ruins of the old church are located at the top of St Paul's Hill and are part of the Malacca Museum Complex, which houses Fort A Famosa, Stadthuys, and various other historic buildings.

All that remains of the 5-century-old Saint Paul Church Melaka are the walls with engraved gravestones, the statue of Saint Francis Xavier, and the bell tower. The church was built by Duarte Coelho, a Portuguese captain, for the Virgin Mary in gratitude for saving his life at sea.

There are souvenir shops near the St Paul's Church complex and the church is visited by tourists who take photos, read the inscriptions on the tombstones and enjoy the magnificent view on the hill.
