Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain in Malaysia
Mount Kinabalu is the highest mountain (Gunung in Bahasa Melayu) in Malaysia and is located in Kinabalu National Park (NP). It is part of the Crocker Range (mountain chain).
Its summit reaches 4,095.2 metres. From the summit, you have the best view of the rising sun, and if you go down, you can see several small villages. In good weather, you can even see Sabah's largest city, Kota Kinabalu, at a great distance. Visiting the mountain is not possible without pre-planning; you need to book in advance, preferably with the help of an agent or travel organisation. The local government only allows about 150 people on the mountain on any given day, meaning only 75 people can go up each day, while the other 75 make the descent at the same time. Permits often run out in the high season. So remember to make the necessary arrangements in advance.
